How DANDA began
First and foremost my name is Anthony Carlton and this is a short on how DANDA came about. I was at my lowest point in my life, unhappy, drinking more than I should, staying in a toxic relationship and simply being a problem rather than a solution. Luckily a friend gave me the original text of Buddha. As I was reading I had this epiphany. I was not being pure and honest with myself. I had been mildly successful thus far in my life being negative and chaotic, but realized I could do so much more if I started believing in myself again. As I continued reading the text my whole perspective started to shift. I really believed I had more figured out then I did. Which I didn’t. Over the last year my eyes and heart have opened and things really started changing for the better. It was the snowball effect. I saw it happening first hand. Being positive was way easier, contagious and simply made me feel better than the “old me.” I am very fortunate to have attended one of the best Business Schools in the country. It gave me a solid business sense, combined with being a long run thinker, relentless and a believer in the arts makes me confident and prepared for the journey ahead and success for the company I created. I truly believe I can help others be the best versions of themselves as I have started to see my change for the better. The notion “if I can do it, anyone can” is applicable here. A friend of mine made a joke a while back to the sense of “Bro, you could be a life coach.” I laughed it off and kept helping him start his new business, which we did. But what he said didn’t go away after a few weeks and I really started to believe I could do this. So I did it. I love seeing people succeed and have inner peace. Nothing makes people happier than being the best they can be and manifesting their “Dreams” through “Ambition.” Hence DandA.
7 Core Values Of DANDA
Dreams Are Worth The Risk
Has someone ever told either implicitly or explicitly that you’re not good enough to succeed? Perhaps gave you the impression that you or your dreams are not worth the effort? Have you ever had an idea that was just pushed aside without any rhyme or reason? Have you ever been made to believe you should give up on something you are passionate about? Many people are given those same messages each day in their formative years all the way to adulthood. It becomes the voice inside them after a time. This could make a person stop believing in and striving for their goals. It is no wonder that people are so afraid to try to pursue their dreams if they don’t believe they will succeed. The question we joke about a lot at DANDA is who do you want to narrate your story? Joe Pesci, Goodfellas or Morgan Freeman, the smoothest voice in the game? We choose the latter.
All People are capable of greatness
“Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Despite the fact that we all have unique gifts and we all once dreamed, most people have been taught to give up on them in favor of earning a living. This is because most people have been given a thousand messages in many forms over their lifetime that they aren't good enough. We don’t believe anyone is born inherently stupid, talentless or cynical. We believe instead that innate value of people gets lost in our modern capitalist society that bases success on financial and material outcomes. We at DANDA realize that productivity and worth are not the same thing and that there are many types of success for the sake of all.
Be the change: Don’t talk about it be about it
If we want things to be different, however, we need to be the change and that starts with believing in ourselves and each other. We must remember that not trying doesn’t keep us safe from failure, it only guarantees that we will never succeed. Most of the time we are our own biggest obstacle to success. If any of this resonates with you and you want to believe in and accomplish your dreams: please stop preventing your own success and happiness. You don’t know what you’re capable of until you try and your outcomes could be made all the more positive by a motivating belief in yourself and your dreams. Stop believing that you are not worth the time and effort. Through dedication, discipline, planning, refocusing and organizing ourselves, anything is possible.
It’s never TOO late to be happy or to live your dreams
If you are reading this you have the ability to start over right now. You can start over at this very moment. You don’t have to be the person you were yesterday. The “new” you can start immediately and take on the day with a fresh approach from this moment on. Letting go of the past helps us make a clear path to the person we want to be tomorrow and the rest of our life. If you have forgotten, neglected, or stopped believing in your talents and passions, we can hold your hope for you until you can feel it again. It is never too late to be happy or reach your potential and there is no limit to what we can accomplish if we can believe in ourselves.
You are who you surround yourself with
You and your life tend to take on the characteristics of the people around you. Not every relationship is healthy and some are severely detrimental to our well-being. If we want to remain healthy, we need to re-examine who we allow close to us. Many love watching train wrecks and downfalls, but what people love even more (even though they may not admit it) is the comeback story. The rise of the Phoenix. Rising from the ashes as a symbol of rebirth. We at DANDA want to remind everyone to follow their dreams and be a positive rather than a negative. This helps us believe that they can achieve despite their shortcomings. We are a half full type cup company, but we believe that people need to be more intentional about making sure their cup stays full.
the juice is worth the squeeze
Achieving dreams won’t be easy, but anything worth having isn’t. If it was, everyone would be living their dreams and none would really appreciate it! Not every gamble will pay off, but it wouldn’t be as fun or exciting if they all did. I once heard a quote about blackjack. I could have sworn it was by Jay-Z, but for the life of me I cannot find the quote and can not remember where I heard it, but paraphrasing it goes a little something like this “ What is the point of playing blackjack if every hand you got a blackjack?” A player's job is to beat the dealer by getting as close to 21 through the value of two numerical cards presented without going over. We are all intrinsically playing the game of life at some level and some of us have to deal with getting dealt a less than stellar hand. So DANDA is here to help you make the most out of whatever hand you have been dealt.
FAILURE only happens when you stop trying
The only true failure in this game comes when you stop trying. If you take this risk with us, you have a 50/50 chance of success, but will have the support of our team. If you don’t try, your chance of failure becomes 100 percent and all you stand to learn is lost with that opportunity. So many ideas have come and gone because someone didn’t have the fortitude to put in the effort and see where they can take it. With a will there’s a way. Cliché, but so true.
You have to get to one before you can get to two.
What’s your next move?
That truly depends on you and that is part of the beauty of life. It truly is a gamble and you can hit or stay, referring to the blackjack analogy above, but fortunately the decision is entirely your choice. DANDA wants to walk beside you as you take the risk and go for your dreams. Just remember that any loss doesn’t mean you are out of the game of life completely. You can either take a “L” as a loss or a lesson. We believe that there is no such thing as failure or something being over. Nothing is over until we decide we are no longer putting effort into something. Any adversity simply means we have to regroup and find a new game to play or get your bankroll back so you can get back into the game.
